"Subcultaneous"

Ausstellung im Rahmen von  Eyes On – Monat der Fotografie, Wien, November 2014

Im Monat der Fotografie 2014 verwandelte sich Wien beim „Eyes On“-Festival wieder in ein internationales Zentrum für künstlerische und dokumentarische Fotografie.

Die Ausstellung „Subkultan“ vereinte verschiedene künstlerische Ansätze, die sich anhand von Bild – Bewegtbild – Raumbild medial verbinden.

Der Begriff „subkutan“ (von lat. sub= „unter“ und cutis = „Haut“; Abk.: s. c.) steht für eine anatomische Ortsangabe und bezeichnet den Bereich unter der Haut.

Subkultur, oft verwendet als Synonym für Gegenkultur, ist ein seit den 1940er-Jahren in der Soziologie verwendeter Terminus, der eine Abgrenzung von der Kultur der Herrschenden bezeichnet. „Subkultan“, eine Wortschöpfung aus subkutan und Subkultur,  wird von den Künstler_innen metaphorisch verstanden; als unter-die-Haut-gehend im Sinne von emotional bewegend, rührend, aufwühlend packend, kurz: im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes unser Innerstes berührend. Vereint mit dem Begriff „Subkultur“ beschäftigen sich die ausgestellten Werke mit dem Mensch an sich und Momenten abseits des sog. „mainstream“, die nicht spurlos an einem selbst vorbeiziehen.

Salzinstallation: Monat der FotograFie –Eyes On

Ausgangsform ist eine aus Salz geformte Wirbelsäule, die in einer Installation einen Einblick in den fortlaufenden Prozess der Dekonstruktion der Salzskulptur zeigt. Ohne Salz würde im Körper eines Menschen, bis in die Zell-Ebene, keine Funktion möglich sein. Die  Installation versinnbildlicht das Salz in Verbindung mit seiner Form als Menschsein im 21. Jahrhundert.

During Photography Month 2014, Vienna again transformed itself into an international center of artistic and documentary photography.

The exhibition "Subcultaneous" combined various artistic approaches connected to the medial basis of image – moving image –spatial image.

The concept "subcutaneous (from the Latin sub= "under" and cutis =skin) stands for an anatomical indication of place and refers to the region under the skin.

Subculture, often used synonymously for counter-culture, is a term used in sociology since the 1940s to make demarcation in distinction to the ruling culture. "Subcultaneous" is a neologism stemming from subcutaneous and subculture, here used by artists metaphorically; getting under the skin in the sense of being emotionally moving, stirring, disturbingly engrossing, in short: in the truest sense of the word, touching us to our very core. The exhibited works united under the rubric of "subculture", were concerned with the human being itself and moments beyond the so-called "mainstream" that do not pass people by without notice. Salt Installation: Photography Month Eyes One

The original shape is a spine formed by salt which, over the course of the installation shows the ongoing process of the deconstruction of the salt sculpture. Without salt, the body of a human being, down to the very cells, would be incapable of functioning. The installation manifests salt in combination with its form as the sine qua non condition of being human in the 21st century.
